My first Funeral
Over the Easter weekend we went to Utah to attend Mike's Grandfathers funeral. Both of his grandparents have passed away the past few months. It was very nice to be able to go to the funeral, see family and have closer.
It was a new experience for both myself and our children. It was the first funeral I have ever attended. It was fun teaching my children about the funeral and explaining about death to them. I say it was fun because they always get so excited when we talk about Jesus dying for us and then being resurrected.
While we were at the church waiting for the hearse to come with the coffin for the viewing Heidi and Joshua were outside playing when it came. When the opened the back of the hearse to pull out the coffin Heidi and Joshua watched with great interest and then very excitedly said to me, "Mommy look it's a treasure chest!" We explained to them that yes it holds a very special treasure but it is called a coffin.
At the grave site Sam had had his limit and decided he was staying in the truck. Heidi went happily with grandma and I had convinced Joshua to come see the service because they were doing a 21 gun salute for great grandpa. He thought it would be cool to see the guns but half way across the cemetery he realized they were going to fire them off and he decided to head back for the truck. And of course we didn't make it back to the truck before they fired them off and scared him half to death with the noise. At least he tried.
I was just glad that mike was able to attend all of the funeral. I know that it meant a lot to him.
